A rewireable fuse box from the seventies, no RCD protection on anything, and a smoke alarm circuit that had been added with a choc block. Swapped for an 18th Edition board with individual RCBOs, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes the whole house out. Tested every circuit, labelled the board properly, and filed the Building Control notification the same afternoon.
One day. Power off 9am, back on by 3.30pm. £680 including the certificate.
Customer had been quoted for a charger on the house wall, which would have meant trailing a cable across the drive every night. We ran armoured cable to the garage instead, clipped along the fence line and buried under the path, and did the load assessment so the shower and the charger cannot trip each other. DNO notified.
Half a day. £950 fitted, including the unit and the cable run.
Thirty four points, new board, new sockets and switches throughout, outside light and a garage supply. We did it room by room and left the kitchen and one bedroom live every night, so nobody had to move out. Floors up and back down, plaster made good, and a proper clean at the end.
Nine working days. £4,900 including the EICR and all certification.
Rang at half seven on a Sunday with no power to half the house. Someone was here by nine, found a failed shower isolator, and charged me the hour he was here. I was braced for a lot worse.
Nine days of a full rewire with two kids in the house and it never once became a nightmare. Floorboards back down every evening, hoovered, and they told me each morning what was going off.
I asked for the insurance certificate expecting an awkward pause. It was in my inbox in about four minutes. That told me everything I needed to know before they started.
Four questions. That is the whole form. We will ring you back with a price or with the one question we need answering first.
Most quotes come back the same day, always within one working day. We do not ask for your budget, because you are asking us for the price.
